Mason jar décor is an extremely popular option right now, Pinterest and Etsy are full of sets to buy. But listen to me, you need absolutely no artistic skill to create your own set and for a fraction of the cost.
Mason jars are available at the big box stores like Target, craft stores like Hobby Lobby, but you can also find them reasonable priced at the grocery store! Or ask the gardener/canner in your life if you can have a few!
Chalk paint is the new trendy paint and works well for this project. I bought mine at Hobby Lobby but noticed today that Michaels has a larger selection, drats! I chose some spring colors bit you can do all one color and save some mula.
You’ll also need a paint brush (foam is okay too), sandpaper if you want a distressed or vintage look, and whatever decorations you want to add. I used some twine on mine. Ribbon can be used or nothing at all! I used a spray varnish on mine, matte finish.
Make sure your jars are clean, wiping with rubbing alcohol or hot soapy water, dry well. Give the jars two or three coats of paint, letting dry completely after each coat.
If you want a distressed look, use sandpaper to lightly go over the raised areas on the jars -as much or as little for the look you want. You can also use a nail file instead of sandpaper!
Take your jars outside and give them a coat or two of spray varnish. When dry, tie your twine or ribbon around the neck. I put some spring flowers in my middle jar and left the others empty. **you can buy a variety of tops, handles, and accessories for mason jars.
Easy peasy! Told ya!
